What's in a pool nickname? A lot really. Some pool players are likely to not think too much about what nickname they use when they first sign up for an online pool game however this can be an important part of the mix for playing against others. When people are in a pool game network they are deciding on who they are going to play against by only a few things. The first would be the skill level, if the pool network you're playing on doesn't show the skill level of your opponent then you shouldn't be playing there! The second (especially if you're playing for cash) will be how much you are willing to play. The third
would have to be what your nickname is. It may not seem very important at first but when you're scrolling down a list of pool player nicknames then you're going to spot ones which either grab your attention or you're going to avoid ones which look they know what they are doing. For example, if your pool nickname is "skilledplayer" I think you can guarantee that not many people are going to pick you to play against. This may be an extreme example but it illustrates the problem. If you keep your nickname friendly, for example "PoolFriend" then friendly people are more likely to play against you. If your nickname is "PoolKiller" you're probably draw the wrong crowd :) This is reasonably different on each pool game network dependant on how the network shows the nicknames to you as you're selecting an opponent but it's worth thinking about when you first sign-up! |
